Healthy Eating

Healthy eating is not about strict dietary limitations, or depriving yourself of the foods you love. Rather, healthy eating is about feeling great. If you want to have more energy, improve your mood, and overall health, how you eat matters. Eating healthy does not have to be overly complicated. It simply requires you to eat a healthy balanced diet. A balance of protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and water in your diet will help you sustain a healthy body. By selecting the healthiest options from each category, you are on your way to developing healthy eating habits that will last.

  • Healthy protein like fish, beans, poultry, and nuts are great
  • Replace refined grains with whole grains
  • Eat fruits of all colors
  • Eat more vegetables of every variety and avoid white potatoes
  • Healthy oils like olive, canola, peanut, grapeseed, flaxseed, avocado, and sesame are good for cooking and on salads

Developing Healthy Eating Habits

While some may think eating healthy balanced meals means restricting yourself from the things you love, it could not be further from the truth. In fact, you don’t need to eliminate certain categories from your diet to be healthy. You just have to make a conscious choice to eat natural unprocessed foods. A balanced diet is one that gives your body the nutrients it needs to function. By getting the majority of your daily calories from fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and lean protein, you are well on your way to developing healthy eating habits.

You Are What You Eat

Foods to Avoid

1) Do not eat empty calories

  • Eating a box of donuts and a sausage pizza is not going to fuel your body
  • Moderation is important to a healthy diet

2) Make the right choices

  • Make fruit your new desert after dinner
  • Take your time while you eat
  • Focus on avoiding packaged and processed foods
  • Replace unhealthy foods with healthy alternatives

Understand the Source of your Calories

The source of your calories is as important as how many you consume. Limit your consumption of empty calories, those that provide little or no nutritional value. Empty calories that come from sugars, and solid fats like butter or shortening.

Make Healthy Eating Fun

Instead of eating a plain salad, liven it up with color, and flavor. To add flavor try drizzling salads with different olive oils, today oils come infused with all sorts of wonderful flavors. Do something crazy to replace your pizza habit. Try making a pizza with cauliflower crust and low fat cheese. Satisfy your sweet tooth naturally with sweet vegetables like sweet potatoes, or carrots. Instead of eating a processed snack food try snacking on vegetables like carrots or celery. Add a little almond butter to an apple slice and you have yourself a snack that you will grow to love. And the best part about it, you will be feeding your body instead of depriving it!

Healthy Eating

Embrace whole foods like vegetables, fruits and whole grains, plus healthy proteins and fats. Cut back on refined grains, unhealthy fats and large amounts of sugar.

Eating healthy results in many positive things. You will feel better, look better, have more energy, and be happier than ever. All it takes is making the right choice. Eat this and feel bad or eat this and FEEL AMAZING.
